Frequently asked questions
How to capture, annotate, share, and export your reviews, plus accounts and data. Search below, or browse the list.
- How do I capture a screenshot? Open the editor, click Pop out & capture (or Quick capture), pick the window to share, and each click grabs the current frame as a screenshot.
- How do I add a screenshot I already have? Paste it with Cmd+V or Ctrl+V, drag the image file onto the editor, or click Add image. It uploads and behaves just like a captured screenshot.
- What is Quick shot and how do I use it? Quick shot (at /shot) is a one-screenshot flow: capture or paste a single image, drop a pin, type a note, and copy a shareable image with a Cobalt link behind it.
- How do I crop a screenshot? On a captured item, drag a rectangle over the preview and confirm the crop. Press Esc or choose Use full frame to keep the whole image.
- How do I add numbered pins to a screenshot? Turn on pin placement, then click the image to drop numbered pins. Each pin adds a matching numbered line to your note so you can annotate each one.
- How do I dictate my commentary instead of typing? Each item has a Dictate button. Click it and talk, and your voice is transcribed into the comment. Dictation works in Chrome and Edge; you can always type instead.
- How do I publish and share a review? Click View public page to publish. Then share the stakeholder link for a clean read-only page, or the reviewer link for the version with export tools.
- How do I export a review as markdown, PDF, or Word? On the reviewer page, use Copy as markdown or Copy as HTML, or the Download options for a PDF or Word document.
- How do I give a review to an AI coding agent like Cursor or Claude Code? Copy the review as markdown and paste it into your agent's prompt, or share the reviewer link. The markdown carries the screenshots and your notes the agent can act on.
- Do I need an account to use Cobalt Capture? No. You can capture, narrate, and publish a review anonymously. Anonymous reviews are deleted after 30 days; sign in with Google to keep them and unlock editing.
- How do I keep an anonymous review from being deleted? Sign in with Google in the same browser you created it in. The review attaches to your account and the 30-day deletion no longer applies.
- How do I edit or delete a published review? Sign in as the owner and open the review page; you'll see Edit and Delete. Editing reopens the capture editor; Delete removes the review permanently.
- Is Cobalt Capture free? Yes. Capturing, annotating, publishing, and exporting to markdown, PDF, and Word are free, with unlimited reviews and screenshots. No credit card required.
- How do I delete my account or my data? Send an account-deletion request from the Contact page. A real person confirms before anything is removed.
